Acts 5:1-11

Chapter 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back some of the proceeds, with his wife knowing about it, and he brought a certain part and placed it at the feet of the apostles. 3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why did Satan fill your heart for you to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back some of the proceeds of the field?" 4 Was it not remaining yours, and when sold, was it not at your disposal? Why did you put this thing in your heart? You did not lie to humans but to God. 5 But Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came upon all who heard it. 6 But the younger men rose, wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. 7 And after an interval of three hours, his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in. 8 Peter said to her, "Tell me, did you sell the field for so much?" She said, "Yes, for so much." 9 But Peter said to her, "Why did you agree to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out." 10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard these things.
